Zouhair Zouaydi: Moroccan Film Director, Cinematographer, and Fashion Visionary Redefining Art Through Cinema and Photography
In the vast landscape of contemporary visual storytelling, where cinema and fashion collide, few names carry the artistic weight and multidimensional vision of Zouhair Zouaydi. A Moroccan film director, cinematographer, fashion photographer, and director of photography, Zouaydi has become a creative force whose work resonates with both cinematic grandeur and fashion’s intimate allure. As the owner of Pixelyz Production and a Vogue member, he embodies a rare synthesis: a storyteller who sees film and photography not as separate disciplines, but as threads woven into one endless tapestry of art.
Zouaydi’s journey began in 2014, but the seeds of his ambition were planted much earlier. As a young boy, he immersed himself in the worlds of cinema and glossy fashion magazines, absorbing every frame, every pose, every emotion that flickered across the screen or page. “I was very young and I was watching movies and fashion magazines, so I took art as my life and my ambition started there,” he reflects. That early spark ignited a lifelong commitment to exploring the human condition through both moving and still images.
At the heart of his philosophy lies a belief in art as infinite. “I describe my style with endless art,” Zouaydi explains. Whether directing a feature film, capturing the intimacy of a fashion editorial, or crafting the technical precision of cinematography, his work is never confined to one medium. Instead, it flows seamlessly, each project informing the other. For him, fashion photography is cinematic; cinema is deeply visual and sculpted with the precision of a still frame. It is this fusion of disciplines that sets his artistry apart.
But if photography and cinematography are his tools, directing is his lifeblood.
“I describe directing with the word my life,” he says. “Because I see the story of every person in this world, and I can take their life and translate it into a movie or into photography.” This profound empathy — the ability to see stories not just as narratives but as lived experiences — anchors his creative vision. For Zouaydi, directing is not merely a profession but a calling to amplify voices, to turn reality into visual poetry.
This vision finds one of its most powerful expressions in his latest documentary, “A World from the Land of My Ancestors.” The film is both deeply personal and universally resonant, chronicling the way of life of his ancestors in a small village in northern Morocco. As a child, Zouaydi visited this village often, witnessing the rhythms of traditional living. Years later, those memories compelled him to direct and film a work that is both homage and preservation. “It is a documentary film that is the story and reality of my ancestors many years ago,” he explains. “When I used to go to them when I was young, I saw their living, so I became a film director and I filmed a documentary about their way of life.”
The documentary is more than a cultural archive; it is a bridge between generations, a cinematic act of remembrance that connects the Moroccan past with the global present. It demonstrates Zouaydi’s conviction that stories are not just entertainment but vehicles of identity and continuity.
Whether in cinema or fashion, Zouaydi’s work consistently aims to evoke admiration, fascination, and reflection.
“I want people to feel admiration and artistic fascination and emotion and meditation and also enjoyment,” he says. This range of emotions is what gives his visuals their magnetic pull. They are not just images or films but experiences — immersive, layered, and profoundly human.
His career also reflects the rise of Moroccan creatives on the global stage. With his foundation in Pixelyz Production and his role as a Vogue member, Zouaydi represents the modern Moroccan artist: rooted in heritage, yet global in perspective; intimate in storytelling, yet expansive in ambition. He is part of a generation redefining Moroccan cinema and fashion photography not as regional outputs but as contributions to international culture.

Whether through the cinematic lens of a documentary, the editorial drama of a fashion image, or the technical brilliance of cinematography, his creations share one thing: an unshakable belief in the power of visual storytelling.
In a world hungry for authenticity, his art offers exactly that: endless, timeless, and deeply human.
